Diode Mode in Digital Meter, When you test a diode in diode mode using a digital multimeter, the positive probe is placed on the P-side (anode) and the negative probe on the N-side (cathode). In this forward-bias condition, the diode allows current to pass through, and the meter displays a small voltage. This value represents the forward voltage drop across the diode, which is the minimum voltage needed for current to flow. For a silicon diode, this is usually around 0.6–0.7 volts, while germanium diodes show about 0.2–0.3 volts, and Schottky diodes around 0.2–0.4 volts.
