Upminster Windmill: Built in 1803, this smock mill is one of the few surviving and restored windmills in England.

Ancient Roots: The name originates from Old English, meaning "a large church or 'minster' located on high ground".

it's a nice touch to lift the engine cover you can claim the motor was running hot and you're waiting for it to cool down?

Original Tea Hut Origins
Established in 1930 by Ernie Miller near High Beech, the Original Tea Hut in Epping Forest began as a popular refreshment stop following the first local Speedway meeting.

Known as "Bert's Tea Hut" and then "Brad's" over four generations of family ownership, it is a legendary, iconic meetup spot for bikers, cyclists, and walkers

Memories of speedway behind King's Oak pub, High Beech in Epping Forest is widely recognized as the birthplace of British speedway, hosting the nation's first official dirt-track meeting on February 18, 1928, which drew up to 30,000 spectators.

Located behind the Kings Oak Pub in Loughton, the track launched the sport's popularity before closing in 1931 and later being reclaimed as a nature centre

The Origin Story: The track was established on a horse-trotting track behind the King’s Oak hotel. It was heavily associated with the Ilford Motor Cycle Club, who needed to raise money.

The First Race (1928): On Feb 18, 1928, R.J. Hill-Bailey of the Ilford Motor Cycle Club organized the first meeting. Despite being an inaugural event, it attracted massive crowds, establishing the sport in the UK

The Tea Hut Connection: The famous Original Tea Hut, a staple for bikers in Epping Forest, was established directly due to the, massive crowds and success of the speedway venue in 1930.

The Site Today: In 1970, the site was cleared to create the Epping Forest Field Study Centre, but the old banking of the track can still be seen near the Kings Oak pub, and a plaque was unveiled there in 1987 by the Veteran Speedway Riders Association

Bits of original speedway track and banking are still visible and a plaque shares some more details of the local heritage and relevance
