Police officer skateboards with kids

Original airdate: 7/5/2018 | Officer Mike Shaw looks out his patrol car window toward the skate park.

"I've been driving around looking for some skaters," he says to the camera.

For Officer Shaw, the call came in and it was simple.

"Let's see who we can find," he says, pulling over to the side of the road.

The Bethlehem Police Department officer was born to do this job. A Stroudsburg native, he got his start there.

"And then I got hired by BPD in 2013 and I've been here ever since," he says.

He likes to be in his community and at the skate park where he used to spend a lot of time.

"I was a skateboarder long before I became a police officer," he smiles.

And this is where that call comes in.

You hear him yell to a skater in the distance, "Come over here real quick!" The young man approaches the squad car slowly.

Officer Shaw reaches into the passenger seat of his car and pulls out a brand new skateboard.
