CORTEX - DERIVE MEDICINE

My submission to Gemma 4 Good Hackathon by Google DeepMind.

Cortex is an interactive medical education system for the Gemma 4 Good Hackathon. It teaches severe aortic stenosis and the vasodilator trap by letting a learner manipulate a deterministic heart, commit to predictions, and watch physiology answer back in real time.

The central technical idea is simple:

Gemma 4 is not used as a chatbot or a retrieval layer. Gemma 4 is constrained to typed tools that operate inside a deterministic physiological simulator.
That structure lets Cortex combine the strengths of a language model with the discipline of a bound model:

Gemma 4 decides the teaching strategy.
The simulator owns the physiological state.
A verifier checks clinical claims before display.
The learner model records prediction errors and schedules repair.
Trace mode keeps the public demo reproducible without private keys.
