Lourdes- The discovery of the spring

The wonderful and touching film "The song of Bernadette" (1943), with Jennifer Jones, narrates, with great accuracy from the historical point of view and with a splendid acting, the story of Lourdes.
The young girl Bernadette Soubirous had 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary, from 11th February to 16th July 1858, at Massabielle Grotto.
The Catholic Church, which has strict criteria for establishing the authenticity of apparitions, approved Lourdes apparitions on 18th June 1862. Bernadette was canonized on 8th December 1933.

In this video the discovery of the spring in the Grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes. The location of the spring was showed to Bernadette Soubirous by the Virgin Mary during the 9th apparition, on 25 February 1858. Since that time many thousands of pilgrims to Lourdes have followed the instruction of Our Lady to "drink at the spring and wash in it". The water flows at 17.000 / 72.000 liters a day.
