11. Megatherium
When you think of sloths, you likely think of small, slow-moving creatures, but in the Ice Age, there were types of sloths that had much more active and aggressive tendencies. One of the biggest among these were the Megatherium. Believe it or not, these ground sloths could actually grow up to 20 feet long, which is longer than many land creatures today, including elephants.

10. Utahraptor
The name Velociraptor is synonymous with the Jurassic Park films, as they were one of the main "villains" in virtually every movie. But the fact of the matter is...they were the size of chickens, and might have been feathered in real life. However, there WERE raptors that were big and dangerous, and could easily be like the raptors from the Jurassic Park films, they were known as the Utahraptors.

9. Megalania
In the Outback of Australia during the Ice Age, there was an Apex Predator so feared that it became a part of the legends of the land, this creature was the Megalania. The Megalania was a monitor lizard, one that was bigger than a crocodile, 23 feet long based on fossil findings.

8. Sarcosuchus
Existing at around 112 million years ago, the Sarcosuchus is affectionately known as the "Super Croc", and for very obvious reasons. Not the least of which is that this mammoth creature is double the size of most modern crocodiles, coming in at about 40 feet long.

7. Meganeuropsis
The biggest insect that is known to the world comes not from the present day, but from prehistoric times ranging from about 250-300 million years ago, and it was known as the Meganeuropsis. Fossils found of these creatures showed that they very much resembled dragonflies that you can find today, the big different though was that they could be well over 2 feet in length in regards to their wingspan.

6. Gorgonopsia
Incorrectly defined as "mammal-like reptiles", Gorgonopsia were one of the true terrors before the dinosaurs arrived. Yet, despite us knowing what they looked like in terms of their body shape via bones, we still know precious little about them.

5. Terror Birds
Just like there are birds in the modern world that can't fly, 62 million years ago was a similar thing, as "Terror Birds" roamed the lands.
Their more scientific names are Phorusrhacids, but the intent is all the same, they were large flightless birds that existed on Earth for about 61 million years.

4. Liopleurdon
The Liopleurodon was a big creature in the water, but there is a big debate between scientists whether this massive creature was only 20 feet, or actually 50 feet, if not longer. The BBC series "Walking With Dinosaurs" used certain evidence to depict it as 80+ feet long, though many have discredited this series because the findings were based on "fragmentary" evidence.

3. Dunkleosteus
This is the Dunkleosteus, which was a fish so terrifyingly strong that it may have had a bite that was more powerful than anything on the Earth, both before or since.

2. Azhdarchid
A family of Pterosaur (which many refer to as the Pterodactyls), the Azhdarchid, were a breed of flying creatures that lived around 140 million years ago. However, what separates the Azhdarchid from the rest of the Pterosaur family is not their age, or their appetite, it's their size and body proportions.

1. Carbonemys
If you were to think about turtles and tortoises that lived in the modern world, you would likely not think about how they evolved or de-evolved over the many eons of life on Earth, but one look at the Carbonemys and that might change for you. These ancient turtles were from the Late Paleoscene period of history, and were said to reside in places like Colombia.
