Marina Pinsky – Genossin Sonne

Marina Pinsky examines the ways in which images can be read as material, spatial, and ideological models of the world. The work presented in the exhibition "Genossin Sonne", can be interpreted as an embodiment of time. "July 15th, 2015" layers a network map of the internet and a map of the zodiac signs on the day the work was created. Thereby, the artist acknowledges, that such mapping or charting is a futile endeavor and that the map would already be outdated in the course of a single day. The time-reflective component of the work is reflected in the date. July 14th is celebrated annually as the national day of France, otherwise known as Bastille Day. During the French Revolution, Parisians famously smashed clocks, figuratively stopping time and symbolically putting an end to the old world order. Rather than celebrating this formative event, Pinsky’s clock marks the anniversary of the following day, July 15th, in which time continued on its course but with a new measurement of social order and progress in place.
