Before Travel Information About The Wakhan Corridor:
Located in the North East part of Afghanistan, is the remote area known as the Wakhan Corridor.
This remote strip of land, borders several countries, which include China, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The Wakhan Corridor, is situated between both the Pamir Mountains and Karakoram Range. The Pamir Mountains are to the North and Karakoram range to the South.
The area to which the Wakhan Corridor is located, is known as the Badakhshan Province.
The area has become more popular with Explorers over the past few years and is believed to have been travelled by Alexandra The Great and Marco Polo, whilst on their way to China.
The Length of The Corridor:
The actual length, is approximately 218 Miles (350 Kilometers) long.
The Width Of The Corridor:
The width of the Corridor ranges from between 7 Miles (13 Kilometers) and 40 Miles (65 Miles) at its widest point.
Getting There:
Travelling to the Wakhan Corridor is not easy and requires much planning and research. You will be required to obtain 3 visas from different authorities, before you are allowed to enter the region.
History Of The Wakhan Corridor:
The history of the Corridor, dates back many centuries. Although the Wakhan is currently closed, it was not always so. It was originally an integral place in which countries met but all changed in 1873. In 1873, an agreement was made that created a border between both Afghanistan and the Russian Empire.
Then, in 1949 the borders were closed, which restricted the movement between countries.
