This series of 100 "Shorts" traces the evolution of "science fiction" from 1926 to 2026—one groundbreaking story or novel at a time.
The series begins with a pivotal moment: when Hugo Gernsback launched Amazing Stories in 1926 and coined the term "scientifiction" for this emerging genre. Of course, proto-science fiction existed long before 1926 but were labeled as "scientific romances," "fantastical tales," and other appellations. 1926 marks when the genre gained its modern identity and name.
