In this Billie Eilish Breakdown, I will show you three of the main music creation techniques that she used while writing and recording these new songs with her brother and producer Finneas.

First we will look at the real time storytelling Billie has used through these songs. She comments on the huge public interest and media debacle of movie stars court cases being displayed all over the internet and the national issues within the USA with the courts ruling on Roe V Wade. Billie also slightly alters the Chorus lyrics of both tracks to keep the listener on their toes intensely listening to her heartbreaking stories.

Secondly Billie works with Finneas Producing skills to keep the acoustic vibe of both tracks while using clever acoustic production techniques to keep them fresh. Firstly they start both tracks very bare with vocals and acoustic guitar. As the tracks progresses Billie and Finneas O'Connell add layers in to add impact, and drop them out on the most emotional lyrics to give them space to breathe. They also leave the volume of Billie's breaths very loud, which really helps give impact and intensity to the vocal.

Finally Billie Eilish uses her production techniques over particular lyrics. Using a fantastic technique called Word Painting. In particular in the Bridge section of 'The 30th' where Billie and Finneas make use of Chromatic Movement, BPM increase, and second inversions to really add tension to the bridge. At the end of the bridge they do the exact opposite, where they release all the tension with a beautiful and open chord of C with the melody ending on it's 5th, G.
