The musical is the same story with few embellishments. even keeping the 19th century setting intact.
We definitely need a movie version with the heroic ironclad Thunder Child doing battle with Martian tripods!
Yes that is the voice of Liam Neeson as the narrator.

I experimented making at least the first part of the imaginary movie black and white to make it feel more in keeping with the time period.

I used a medley of songs from the musical here. The opening is the famous Eve of War followed by Forever Autumn, a little of Thunder Child (the alien chant), and ending with a bit of the prologue.
