So I was asked after showing my upwork.com portfolio in my last video how I was so successful on the platform. So in this video I give 4 tips on how to be a successful freelance developer on upwork.com. I was able to pay my way through my last semester in college by freelancing and here I share my story and my insight!

Tip #1 - Start Cheap (3:32)
Be willing to work for cheaper than what you are worth so you can get your foot in the door. This will allow you to get a rating, which will make landing future contracts much easier assuming you were successful.

Tip #2 - Get Your Skills Up! (4:19)
Before you can get started it is important to have at least a little bit of skill in whatever service that you plan on offering. So I recommend that you use books, the internet and other resources to learn what you need to learn. Once you have a basic understanding of your specialty. I recommend that you work on a personal project to further cultivate your skills.

Tip #3 - Make a Good Profile (6:01)
Make sure your profile illustrates accurately the services and skills that you offer and you will increase your chances of landing contracts.

Tip #4 - Personalize Messages (7:32)
Be sure to read thoroughly through the job descriptions before applying. Then customize your message to your new potential client based on their unique needs.
