Serious questions are being raised over the delay in the legal fight for justice in the Zubeen Garg murder case. While the accused have already prepared a strong legal team, including senior advocates from outside Assam, there is growing anger over why a dedicated and powerful judicial team has not yet been formed for Zubeen Garg.

At a press conference, members of the film fraternity, Guwahati Cine Musicians’ Association, and the Zubeen Garg Fan Club strongly voiced their concerns. Renowned musician and close friend of Zubeen Garg, Partha Goswami, questioned the silence of society when lawyers from outside the state arrive to defend the accused. He asked why justice for Zubeen Garg is still being delayed.

Similar demands were raised by Jayanta Kakati, Manas Baruah, and Aniruddha Baruah, who called for the immediate formation of a strong legal team and the establishment of a special fast-track court with daily hearings. They warned that justice delayed today could mean justice denied tomorrow, especially with elections approaching.

Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, has also written to the Chief Minister seeking urgent justice. AASU Chief Advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya has supported the same demand. Responding to public pressure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on January 6 in Jorhat that a decision regarding the judicial team would be taken in the January 9 cabinet meeting.

According to sources, the government has finalized the appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor and is likely to appoint five senior criminal advocates from a prepared list of 7–8 experienced lawyers. The case will proceed based on the police charge sheet, with strong public demand for a special fast-track court to ensure speedy justice.

Despite these assurances, Zubeen Garg’s fans and well-wishers remain concerned about the delay and fear the case may lose momentum if immediate action is not taken.
