Brigadier General Peter B. Zwack | Russia: Resurgent or Declining Power?
This lecture is a geostrategic survey of the Russian Federation looking at this vast nation from a Eurasian perspective. It touches domestically and externally on Russia's contemporary challenges and actions taking a long view into the next generation. Going back to fundamentals the discussion also concentrates on Russia's difficult geography and history as a prelude to addressing Russia's world of existential threats; real, perceived and contrived. Finally, Brigadier General Peter Zwack takes a quick survey of Russia's geostrategic periphery that includes China, Europe, its fractious South and the melting Arctic concentrating on how it will manage its own internal and broader global dynamics into the next generation.
BG Peter Zwack served as the United States Senior Defense Official and Attache to the Russian Federation. By interacting with Russians at multiple levels since 1989, including defense, security, academia, policy, veterans, and private citizens, BG Zwack developed a unique hands-on perspective on Russia and Eurasian security affairs during a turbulent period that included the recent strife in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.
