“Tintype” Collodion Wet Plate photography demonstration by Flagstaff's Eric Retterbush of MOCAF

The Museum of Contemporary Art Flagstaff, Arizona presents Eric Retterbush (https://www.ericretterbush.com/) demonstrating Frederick Scott Archer's Wet Plate Collodion photography process popular in the nineteenth century. Although similar to other “tintypes” (aka “melainotypes” and “ferrotypes”) such as the daguerreotype and ambrotype, Archer's methods were preferred by the amazing and influential landscape artist, Carleton Watkins (1829–1916). Join Eric as he conveys a brief history of his art, then runs through the entire process of producing a collodion tintype. Watch the silvery image appear right before your eyes!

This program is a production of Life Arts Network (https://lifeartsnetwork.com/) in association with the Flagstaff Festival of Science (https://www.scifest.org/) and MOCAF (https://www.facebook.com/weareMOCAF/).
