Emotional Regulation - A Catholic Way to Understand Your Emotions

Many people today are told they need to “regulate” their emotions — often in terms of nervous systems, hormones, and brain chemistry. But the Catholic tradition offers something deeper and more coherent.

In this video, I introduce the classical understanding of the 11 passions as taught by St. Thomas Aquinas and reflected in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Your emotions are not random. They are not morally bad in themselves. They are structured movements of the soul, directed toward good or away from evil.

Understanding this changes everything.

We explore:
– What emotional regulation really means
– Why the passions are ontologically good
– How they become disordered
– And two simple first steps: learning to feel them and bringing them to God in prayer

This is a foundational teaching for anyone seeking psychological clarity and spiritual maturity.
