Koyasan (高野山), Headquarters of Shingon Sect of Japanese Buddhism

Koyasan (高野山) or "Mount Koya" is located in Wakayama Prefecture on a mountain about 2500 feet above sea level. Koyasan is the headquarters of the Shingon Sect of Japanese Buddhism and the final resting place of it's founder Monk Kobo Daishi Kukai. Koyasan is considered is one of the most sacred and spiritual places in entire Japan. Even if you are not religious, you will find Koyasan to be the most surreal and spiritual place you have ever visited.
