England wouldn't have budgeted for the strongest resistance to come from Suresh Raina, who proved he belonged with a fighting 78. That Raina looked more comfortable than Sachin Tendulkar during their 17.4-over partnership told a story.

He showed character and reached a half-century filled with fluency. It was some good, solid defiance from Raina as he finished with 78 in what was otherwise a disappointing Indian batting show.
