Learn Photographic Lighting with Don Giannatti (Bottles): Exercise One
In this experiment, I want you to use two or three very dark wine bottles - either purchase super dark bottles or spray paint two empties glossy black. (How you get them to empty is up to you... heh).

Then follow the directions on the diagram and see the results. I don't want to show you what to expect yet, I want you to create your images and discover all the nuances that these tools can provide.
The scrim should be only about a foot or less out of the frame of the camera. It is in very close for this shoot experiment. You are shooting straight across at the bottles so they are standing up and you probably are shooting a portrait framing.
Here is a video of me on CreativeLIVE discussing how to make scrims.

Once you have experimented, check these out on Google.

You will need a scrim (3' x 3' square or slightly larger). It can be a professional scrim or something you put together with shower curtain and PVC pipe.
Here is a video that will help you understand the scrim and its construction.
Fill boards can be purchased at Target or the Dollar Store for a few bucks. You will need stands to hold the cards somehow.
Let me know how you fare, and post comments below.
