‘Height of hubris’ for Dan Andrews to label his roadmap the ‘only way’

Sky News host Rita Panahi says it is “the height of hubris” for Premier Daniel Andrews to declare his roadmap as the only way out Victoria’s draconian coronavirus lockdown.

“Instead of emulating the likes of Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea in having a targeted, nuanced response to the pandemic, we are prolonging a simplistic lockdown strategy that will cause more harm in the long run than the coronavirus,” she said.

“The members of the Dan cult including many in the media who mindlessly parrot Andrews' claims that he is putting lives before the economy are ignoring the reality that Victoria is responsible for nine in 10 coronavirus deaths in the country.”

Ms Panahi said Victoria’s death rate per capita was now worse than Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovenia and Costa Rica.

“If you listen to Dear Leader Dan, only his approach is medically sound and any other path to recovery will see many more die, but leading scientists and physicians including infectious diseases experts have warned that Victoria's strategy is not only destructive but likely to fail without a vaccine.

Ms Panahi said “every single Australian will pay for the ineptitude of the Victorian government.”

She cited renowned economist Henry Ergas who wrote "it is Australians outside Victoria who will largely fund the commonwealth transfers without which the state would collapse”.
