When originally fitted to a heavy base, the mech would have been much easier to start, and would run without wobbling about! It’s just a knack to get it going. Basically, a quick touch of the 3-slot wheel to release the sprung spiggot and you’re away. Not so easy if you just try to start it without doing that. A valid design, but requiring an experienced operator.
