How to install a loft ridge steel and front rafters

Here we show how to install a loft ridge beam. In our case the SE had specified a steel ridge, which is most common. Occasionally they might specify a glulam beam.

We had to lift the steel ridge beam into place, and like the two floor steels, the beam came in three parts that needed to be bolted together. It took two of us to carry each section and there were only three of us on site, so once it was bolted together it was the equivalent of us each lifting one section each!

Because of this, we show you the easiest way to lift something heavier that you can do in one go.

We built a framework around the posts we were sitting the steel on, and essentially "walked" the steel up into place, before making sure it was square to the building and securing it in place. After we installed the steel, we carried installing the rest of the 2x6" rafters.
