Reflections of the Kuper Island Podcast | An interview with CBC Journalist Duncan McCue

Warning: The abuse suffered by Indigenous children at residential schools was often violent, including sexual violence. Racism was prevalent. Hearing from survivors can be disturbing and triggering.
Introduction
What Kind of School Has A Graveyard?”

That is the question Anishinaabe Journalist and CBC correspondent Duncan McCue explores in the podcast Kuper Island. It tells the story of four students at the Kuper Island residential school, a residential school just a stone’s throw from Victoria’s capital region in the Gulf Islands

September 30, 2022 marks the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to recognize and reflect on the legacy of residential schools in Canada.

To mark this event, the CRD’s Manager of Social Media asked Duncan to reflect on the impacts of this tragic story.
