Today in Parliament, during Zero Hour, I raised the crucial issue of implementing the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act in Goa’s Panchayat Raj system. The Act, enacted in 1992, aims to strengthen grassroots democracy by empowering Gram Sabhas and local self-governance.

I also highlighted the ill-conceived land use laws in Goa, which are facilitating large-scale conversion of agricultural, orchard, forest, and NDZ land into settlement areas, despite opposition from local Gram Sabhas. This reckless land conversion threatens Goa’s environment and could turn the state into a coal hub. Implementing the 73rd Amendment is crucial to protecting Goa’s land and ensuring true democratic decentralization.
