In late 1990, Mazda pulled six early NA-generation Miatas directly off the Hiroshima assembly line to experiment with potential paint options for future vehicles. Each car was painted thoroughly inside and out, given a paint code of "X" on its build sheet, and shipped to Mazda’s design studio in Irvine, California. On their window stickers, the exterior shade was officially listed as "Various Test Colors." Because only one factory car was ever made for each color, these six vehicles represent the ultimate holy grail for Miata enthusiasts.
