UET Lahore Vice Chancellor Represents Pakistan at UNESCO 2026 Policy Dialogue

Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of, represented Pakistan at the UNESCO 2026 Leadership Policy Dialogue held in Kathmandu, Nepal, where he delivered a comprehensive presentation on developing an AI-ready higher education workforce.
During his address, Dr. Shahid Munir emphasized the critical importance of teachers’ professional development in preparing educational institutions for the future. He stated that universities must align themselves with emerging global educational trends by integrating modern technology, research, and digital skills into academic systems. He further highlighted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a fundamental component of future education, research, and economic development, making it essential for higher education institutions to adopt forward-looking strategies.
Dr. Shahid Munir’s vision and policy recommendations received significant appreciation during the dialogue, and his proposals are expected to be considered for inclusion in the proposed South Asian regional education policy framework.
During the visit, the Vice Chancellor also held important meetings with representatives from UNESCO, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), China, and South Asian countries, as well as Vice Chancellors of various universities. The discussions focused on regional academic collaboration, the promotion of emerging technologies, and the effective integration of AI in higher education.
Through its participation in this prestigious international forum, UET Lahore effectively highlighted Pakistan’s perspective on the future of higher education and further strengthened its role in regional academic leadership and policy development. The participation is being regarded as an important step toward promoting regional cooperation, research, and technology-driven educational policymaking in South Asia.
