« Emmer’s film, which featured Franco Interlenghi from De Sica’s Shoeshine (Sciuscià, 1946) as well as an early performance from Marcello Mastroianni, was considered the first example of neorealismo rosa (‘pink neorealism’). This trend saw filmmakers continue to use many of the formal devices of neorealism while discarding its political agenda and drawing on popular genres such as comedy and melodrama. »
