The Bradner Films: Manhattan Era Los Alamos (2021 RESCAN, Part 1)
These films were created by Hugh and Marge Bradner, veterans of wartime Los Alamos, during the Manhattan Project. The Bradners donated the original films to Los Alamos National Laboratory many years ago. Though the films have been released before, expert preservationists at the Laboratory's National Security Research Center recently rescanned these rare and fascinating films.
Some of the things you will see include (in order of appearance):
Fat Man's mushroom cloud at Nagasaki
High explosives testing
The concrete bowl
Radiolanthanum (RaLa) handling
The Valles Caldera
Physicist James Tuck
Maria Martinez, the famous Tewa potter, and her family
Marjorie "Marge" Bradner
Nobel Laureate Hans Bethe
Physicist Hugh Bradner
At 8:12, you will see what I believe to be Los Alamos scientists leaving the Laboratory to go see the Trinity test.
