Figures of Speech were a female duo rap group from Los Angeles, consisting of AvA (Ava Duvernay) and Jyant (Ronda Ross). Produced by The Nonce. Dropped 1 album entitled "The Last Word". Additional production by Chillin Villain Empire and Digiak. Artwork by Jah Orah. Figures of Speech's song "Don't Get it Twisted" is featured on 1994's cult classic Project Blowed Compilation.

Ava Duvernay is now an award-winning film director. She directed "This is the LIFE" Documentary (2008) and "Selma" (Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, 2014).Figures of Speech performed regularly in the LA underground scene, but beyond the contribution to Project Blowed, never released their music until the summer of 2007 on the album THE LAST WORD. The songs featured on THE LAST WORD were recorded in and around Los Angeles from approximately 1992-1996. The tracks were largely produced by CVE, Digiak and The Nonce. THE LAST WORD is restored and executive produced by Omid."
