HD - Adam Lambert - Benefit for Marriage Equality - Outlaws of Love - Washington, DC

Adam Lambert returned to Washington DC's renowned 9:30 Club on September 25th, 2012 for a benefit show for "Marylanders for Marriage Equality", an organization devoted to getting the vote out in support of Question 6, the referendum on Maryland's Civil Marriage Protection Act.

Adam thrilled the audience with his incomparable vocals and a high energy performance. Before rendering a poignant delivery of "Outlaws of Love", a song he originally wrote with the travails of his LGBT brothers and sisters in mind, Adam delivered an impassioned speech about marriage equality.

In the days preceding the Marriage Equality benefit, Adam gave several interviews voicing his views on the importance of achieving marriage equality for all. Following are some quotes from these interviews:

"I'm a singer, I'm an entertainer. I'm not a politician. But this is an issue that affects me because it supersedes politics." *

"Question 6 isn't something that's asking me whether or not you're a Democrat or a Republican" **

"Marriage equality, though, is a human-rights issue—it's nonpartisan, and I think it should bring people together, which is what I'm all about."**

"Whether I was straight or gay, I would still support this issue because it's a human issue." ***.

"If this is something we can get passed, what we're doing for the next generation is lifting a ton of shame and guilt and secrecy off of the LGBT community. The clichés attached to the gay community were born out of shame and secrecy, and if we can get rid of those things, we'll end up with a lot more happy, normalized gay and lesbian kids." **

"Ideally, that's what being an American is -- that we all have a shot [at marriage]. I hear a lot of arguments against it, where [gay activists] say, 'We should be focusing on economic issues and not human rights issues, for the election.' There's some value in that. But I also think, 'You know what? This is an economic issue for gay people. We should have the same right as a straight couple to have a tax exemption.... We should be able to raise a family that's equally protected under the law." *

"... marriage is a symbol that has the opportunity to lead to more tolerance and more integration."***
