Who Pays for Blockchain Oracle Data in the First Place? | Radix DLT

In this video clip, Supra's CEO Joshua Tobkin tells RDX Works LTD CEO Piers Ridyard about who initially pays for oracle data to get on the ledger, and how oracles can avoid "the tragedy of the commons" or "free-rider problem" where multiple entities can get data without paying for it.

For example, if an entity requests and pays for data, Supra can encrypt the data with the customer's public key and post it to encrypt it, so only the customer can read the data. While smart contracts cannot unencrypted data and act on it without revealing that data to others, Supra can use an access list to query a smart contract without gas.

Anyone on the access list will have shared the cost of verification and posting data, so the more people on the list, the cheaper it is for everyone. Access list members will also have access to the data in the smart contract without having to pay gas.

While others could get the data, they will have to pay more, making it cheaper to acquire $SUPRA tokens, lock them in a smart contract, and get on the access list. This is especially true if users want data at regular intervals for lower prices.
