Galapagos Marine Iguanas Fighting for Territory at Las Tintoreras

Galapagos Islands - Two male marine iguanas fight for territory at Las Tintoreras near Isabela Island.

These two males were sizing each other up as a Galakiwi tour group hiked along the Las Tintoreras trail. This islet near Puerto Villamil is covered in old aa lava fields, and is an important nesting area for marine iguanas.

After a few minutes of shaking their heads to try and intimidate the other guy, these two Galapagos marine iguanas finally started fighting, each lunging for the back legs and body of the other, creating a dancing-like fight motion.
