Fear of Nightmares | Jumpscare 🧟 #shorts

This 16-second clip perfectly illustrates the fragile line between confident commentary and pure, unadulterated panic in horror gaming. Featuring footage from the indie horror title Fear Of Nightmares: Madness Descent, the video captures a first-person perspective of a player carrying a lantern while walking along the exterior of a creepy red building.

The mechanical design of indie survival horror games often relies heavily on sensory deprivation and unpredictable pacing. With a limited radius of light provided by the lantern, the environment builds intense tension. The player nonchalantly jokes about pulling the item out of thin air, muttering, “Good lord, this game is just absolute...” right before a violent, unexpected jumpscare entirely cuts off his sentence and abruptly clips the gameplay screen.

The true comedy, however, stems from the subsequent audio monologue overlaying the title screen. The creator delivers a calm, deadpan reflection: “Of every horror game I have ever played, none of them have genuinely startled me... until now.” Combined with the user-generated caption overlaying the screen reading “in my 35 years of teaching ‘ahh’ reaction,” the contrast between his relaxed retrospection and the sudden shock creates a hilarious post-scare comedy routine. It proves that no matter how seasoned of a horror veteran you think you are, an indie game with a perfectly timed audio cue can make anyone completely rethink their life choices.
