Corduroy Roads
This technique is used when a trail is so wet and muddy that no amount of gravel will make it passable. It would just mix with the muck and turn to mush. The muck is scraped out and set aside, while Hemlock logs are placed in the trench. Gravel is then spread on top of the logs, which hold it above the water and muck, allowing it to pack into a solid surface.
