Seattle City Hall protesters call for Mayor who authorised police aggression at BLM demos to resign

Demonstrators flooded Seattle City Hall, Washington to protest police brutality and racism while also calling for the city’s mayor to resign.

In this video, protesters can be heard chanting “black lives matter” while several also hold placards that read “Durkan must go.”

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan had been criticised for her leadership during ongoing protests for racial justice in the city. City council members voiced frustrations with the police response to protests on Monday, local media reported.
A lawsuit filed against city authorities in federal court earlier Tuesday singles Durkan out for authorising aggressive police actions during recent protests, including the use of tear gas and other chemical irritants.

Led by Seattle City Council Member Kshama Sawant, a crowd of Black Lives Matters protesters flooded into City Hall late Tuesday.

Videos from the scene showed dozens, if not hundreds, of demonstrators occupying the building after reportedly being let in by Sawant, who has sided with protesters amid unrest in the city and criticised the police response.

Many of the demonstrators held signs reading “Durkan must go” and chanted calls for Mayor Jenny Durkan’s ouster.
