Usyk, 39, trailed on the scorecards heading into the penultimate round before landing a crisp right uppercut that dropped Verhoeven for the first time. The referee waved off the fight at 2:59 of round 11 amid controversy, with Verhoeven — fighting in just his second professional bout — saying afterward he felt it was an early stoppage. Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew called for a rematch, saying it was the only time he had seen Usyk outworked on a consistent basis. On the same card, Hamzah Sheeraz won his maiden world title with a second-round stoppage of Alem Begic for the WBO super-middleweight belt, and Jack Catterall earned a WBA welterweight title shot with a wide points win over Shakhram Giyasov.
