AI Is About to Eat the Sub-Sourcing Game — Here's What That Means for Your Federal Bids #Shorts
Most contractors think AI is some shiny toy for writing emails. They're missing the real shift.
The grunt work that used to eat your week — finding subs, qualifying them, blasting outreach, chasing quotes, formatting bids — that's the part AI is about to swallow whole. And when it does, the gap between the 3,000 contractors winning federal work and the other 22,000 sitting in SAM doing nothing is going to widen fast.
I was on a Zoom with John this week. Sharp guy, already chewed through hours of my content. He asked the right question: where does AI fit in the future of federal bidding? Here's what I told him.
AI doesn't replace strategy. It replaces friction. The contractor who already understands FAR, already knows how to negotiate an RFQ before award, already knows that bonds are only one of five payment-and-performance options — that contractor with AI becomes a one-person bidding machine. The contractor who doesn't understand the rules just produces more garbage bids, faster.
That's the part nobody is telling you. AI is an execution multiplier. If your execution is wrong, it multiplies wrong. If your positioning is right, it's rocket fuel.
Think about sub-sourcing alone. You post a sub-$150K job, no bonding headache, and instead of you personally calling 40 electricians in Bumblescrew, Nebraska, your AI does the outreach, filters the responses, and hands you three qualified quotes by Tuesday. That's not the future. Guys are doing it right now.
The contractors who lose in the next 24 months won't lose because of politics or the administration or bonding or credit score. Federal construction spending is stable across administrations — I've watched it for 35 years. They'll lose because they were too proud or too lazy to learn the rules AND the tools at the same time.
Volume beats hesitation. Always has. AI just makes volume cheap.
