Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words could never hurt me!

Today, I chatted with Guy Lambert, News Director at WPGC AM-FM, on FOX 5 DC's Live Zone hashtag#fox5livezone. We talked the power of words, especially when used to weaponize, politicize, and legislatively destabilize marginalized groups.

Many of us code-switch, use "shade," or leave people on "read" to make hurtful points or avoid dealing with some of the ills we are forced to encounter in society. Gaslighting and Dog-Whistle politics are common ways that words are weaponized. To see them in use, you just have to scroll through social media or turn the television on.

Each featured poem in A2: A Scholarly Poetical Science Discourse aligns with social movements, women's rights, identity, double consciousness, hair justice, hashtag#linguisticimperialism and hashtag#linguicide. These creative works all function in tandem with real-world events to discuss the various ways in which language can be empowering or weaponized.

As a scholar and Publisher of Universal Write Publications, I understand viscerally how the weaponization of words plays a role in the hashtag#bannedbooks movement and why the hashtag#censorship or co-optation of knowledge is so powerful. The mission of "telling our own story" and reclaiming our narrative is not just a mantra for hashtag#UWPBooks; it is what we do. We stand on the research of UWPBooks authors and other changemakers, and hashtag#cite those who are unapologetic in making their voices heard.
