Whether you want to have a transparent background for your logo to insert that as a watermark in all your images or video, (Yes, all major video editing softwares including Premiere Pro supports transparent objects) or you are making composites, you need to have objects and images with transparent background. Let us understand what exactly an object with a transparent background is. An object with a transparent background when imported into any photo or video editing software DOES NOT bring with it it's background to form a rectangle or square. Usually an object which was built to be transparent and not saved with a transparent background, will automatically acquire white to be it's background color. On the other hand, an image with a transparent background will take whatever is in layer below the object layer as a background.
Now, saving images with transparent background, all boils down to image file formats. Now, there are tons and tons of formats, but the one thing that you need to know is, there are some formats that support transparency while some don't. When you save an image with a transparent background in Photoshop, you need to make sure that you are saving it in a format that supports transparency. The best format for transparency retention is undoubtedly PNG.
I'm doing this demonstration on Adobe Photoshop CC 2017.
There are other formats that do support transparency but PNG is the format that is accepted worldwide across almost all platforms.
