DJI Action 4 FPV Drone Footage 🚁🎥

The new DJI Action 4 is @djiglobal’s latest addition to their action cam lineup. Boasting a 1/1.3inch sensor and 10bit D-Log M recording at up to 4K 120FPS. So far we’ve seen a lot of action cam-style footage with it, but here’s some FPV drone footage from it - something that has been highly requested.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE ACTION 4 AS AN FPV PILOT ⬇️

So far I’ve gotten some really nice results from the Action 4 in a variety of lighting conditions. I’ve filmed with it at sunrise, midday and in cloudy-sunny conditions where it’s dynamic range is put to the test. The D-Log M profile gives plenty of latitude in post for grading, much more than the GoPro’s 11’s 10bit Flat profile.

The camera’s low light performance is much better than the GP11, I notice even on sunny days, in the shadows it retains much more information and noise performance is cleaner. In terms of colour, it is a tricky one to answer. When compared to the GP 11, the Action 4 is definitely less vibrant and probably a little colder in terms of WB (even when both are matched) - But I think this is more true to life than GoPro - when compared side by side the GP looks almost too saturated, even ‘fake’ looking. But this is all open to interpretation. Some will prefer GoPro colour.

The footage is just like the Mini 3 Pro and Air 3, it grades the same and it’s nice to have that flexibility now for FPV footage coming from the Action 4 as well as traditional drone footage. I feel that the Action 4 footage is more similar to an actual camera and definitely does not look like typical action cam footage in terms of distortion and colour saturation - this is a good thing. From doing a bit of vlogging with it, it blends with proper camera footage very well.
