MQ-9 Reaper Successfully Automatic Takeoff And Landing Test

The US Air Force's 556 Test and Evaluation Squadron has demonstrated the readiness of the automated takeoff and landing system for the remote-controlled MQ-9 Reaper during a two-day test flight from AF Creech Base in Nevada to two separate destinations.

The USAF said on Thursday, July 15, 2021, that the drone used cockpit-mounted imagery technology and a targeting pod to survey the runway for uncontrolled and unassisted takeoffs and landings on site.

The drone took off and landed on its own during the journey to Cannon and Holloman bases in New Mexico, with flight control by pilots at Nellis AFB in Nevada.
