Freezing swimming in the Baltic Sea during a 3 hours cruise on an icebreaker boat for 285€ ($313)

Located between Sweden and Finland, the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea freezes from late November to April. Here, tourists can experience a polar-like expedition by joining a day cruise on the Polar Explorer, an icebreaker boat departing from the Swedish border with Finland. Captain Frank Hammerø, with a background in the coast guard and oil industry, highlights the vessel's specialized hull and icebreaker bow. Originally an industrial icebreaker, the boat has been adapted for tourism, with crew cabins converted to guest seating. Despite the brisk -22°C temperatures, guests are invited to swim in specially designed neoprene suits, ensuring safety and warmth. Many, initially hesitant, end up enjoying the unique experience. The three-hour cruise costs 285 Euros, and the company, riding a post-pandemic travel boom, expects up to 18,000 guests this season, capitalizing on the increased interest and spending in Finland's Lapland for unforgettable experiences.
