Brightline Lawsuit, CAHSR Funding Pulled

California High Speed Rail (CAHSR) has had over $4 billion in funding pulled by the Trump Administration. CAHSR is changing its proposed route schedule, potentially dropping Merced from phase 1 entirely. CAHSR proposes focusing on Palmdale to Gilroy via the Central Valley section already under construction to connect to BrightlineWest and Caltrain. Central Valley stations have been downsized to reduce costs. Brightline Florida (not BrightlineWest, the high-speed rail project) is struggling to pay off their debt. Brightline recently had its bonds downgraded by Fitch. Brightline is being sued by Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) for attempting to run a new commuter rail service in South Florida without telling them. New Stats have Brightline's death toll at 186 people since they started operations in 2018. No moves are happening yet on Caltrain's Dumbarton Rail Corridor.
