PESEL number : is the national identification number used in Poland since 1979. It has 11 digits and identifies just one person. It cannot be changed to another one. The PESEL number is mandatory for all permanent residents of Poland and for temporary residents living in Poland for over 2 months. DRIVING LICENSE : If you declared Poland as your place of residence, you can exchange your driving licence into polish one. when you have a driving licence from any EU or EFTA member state you can use it as long as it’s valid. But is recommended that you get a Polish driving licence for practical reasons.

Poland recognizes International Driving Permits (IDPs) or driving licenses compatible with international agreements for example Convention on Road Traffic of Geneva
; Convention on Road Traffic of Vienna ; According to the conventions you can drive a car for six months after your arrival to Poland and you don’t need to exchange licences, but you must be in possession of documents compatible with the conventions. If you wish to keep driving after six months, you need to exchange your document for a Polish driving license.

OTHER COUNTRIES
If you don’t have documents compatible with the Convention on Road Traffic or agreements between your country and Poland, you cannot drive a car until you’ve exchanged your national driving licence for a Polish document. You will need to pass a theoretical exam before.
