Cash condensing April | A few mistakes corrected | My washi haul from Japan | $1,125 back to bank
Today I did my best to do my cash condensing and loved how so much is returning to the bank. I did have some errors that I found and added a bit more video at the end to show me correcting this.To finish I showed off my washi tape haul from Japan.
Thanks for coming along on my journey. Not as much coughing today, so hopefully on the mend from my chest infections.
What is cash stuffing?
It’s a method where you take whatever money is left in your bank account after all your usual monthly or fortnightly bills are paid—things like rent, utilities, and subscriptions. From there, you set aside some cash into envelopes to save for things you want or need. By using physical cash for everyday spending like groceries, eating out, and hobbies, it’s easier to stay on budget and avoid overspending.
To keep it fun, I also use savings games that make putting money aside more exciting. When I overspent on a holiday, I was able to take $1,800 out of my envelopes to cover the extra costs—so it really works!
There’s also something called “cash condensing,” where I take the saved cash back to the bank so it’s secure and can earn interest. Then I use placeholders in the envelopes to represent how much is in the bank.
I started this system when I separated and had no income coming in. I needed to stretch every dollar. Now that I’m working again, I’ve been able to save for things I never thought I could—still take holidays, and even plan to pay off part of my mortgage when I visit the UK. That’s something I wouldn’t have managed before when I was spending with a credit card or Eftpos.
