Demonstration of TVIPSconverter, a GUI for converting .tvips to .blo

TVIPSconverter is a small open source GUI tool for converting TVIPS camera data into other data formats. Instalation instructions can be found on Github:

TVIPS cameras are pixelated detectors made by the small German company TVIPS. They are used in some transmission electron microscopes to collect precession electron diffraction (PED) and 4D-STEM data. However, the data is collected in a very inconvenient .tvips data format. Large datasets are often spread out over multiple files, making analysis even more annoying. More common data formats for analyzing 4D datasets are HDF5 based. For PED, the NanoMegas blo file is still the standard. TVIPSconverter is a free and handy tool to convert the data to HDF5 and blo files. In the future I hope to also support USID, the LiberTEM format and Hyperspy HDF5.
This video gives a quick rundown of the workflow inside the GUI, as it can be a little confusing. First one converts the TVIPS data to an intermediate HDF5 file. This is because an HDF5 file is much easier to work with dynamically, and it serves as a workaround for storing all the data in RAM. In this first stage, a user should also decide on applying some processing steps to the images, such as binning, gaussian blurring, ... as well as decide on preliminary virtual bright field settings if the data concerns a PED dataset. In the second step, the HDF5 dataset is converted to a blo by aligning the various frames in the scan. One also has the option to export the various frames in the HDF5 file as individual tiff files.
This tool is NOT an official tool supported or distributed by the TVIPS company. Use at your own risk.
