To Subscribe to a channel, you need to have a Google account, which is free and easy to create with a name, any valid email, and a password. Signing up for gmail automatically creates a Google account, so you may already have one.
To comment, you also need a YouTube channel, which is automatically created the first time you comment.
Once you’re signed in, you can Like videos and Subscribe to channels, which will now show up in recommended videos. When I'm signed in, I notice the videos YouTube suggests are more what I like to watch than what they suggest if I'm not signed in.
