The Tethys Ocean Died to Build Mount Everest and Left Seashells at 29,000 Feet

At nearly 29,000 feet above sea level, geologists have discovered marine fossils embedded in the rocks of the world's highest mountain.

The answer leads to a vanished ocean called the Tethys Sea, the formation of the Himalayas, and one of the greatest geological mysteries in Earth's history.

At the summit of Mount Everest — 29,000 feet above sea level — geologists have found seashells. They didn't wash there. They grew there. In a warm, shallow sea that vanished millions of years ago.

🔍 WHAT YOU'LL DISCOVER:
- Why there are seashells on Mount Everest — and what they prove
- The Tethys Sea: the lost ocean that once encircled the globe
- How two continental collisions built every mountain range
between Europe and Asia
- Ophiolites — rare slices of ancient ocean floor "teleported"
onto mountain peaks
- Why 70% of the world's oil came from a dead ocean
- How the Mediterranean Sea is the Tethys's last breath
- Why the seashells didn't travel to Everest — the mountain
travelled to them

THE FULL INVESTIGATION:-
250 million years ago, there was no Everest. No Alps. No
Himalayas. In their place: a vast, warm ocean called the Tethys
Sea — 10,000 kilometres wide, encircling the planet like a belt.

Then it vanished.
The death of the Tethys Sea is one of the greatest geological
events in Earth's history. Two continental collisions — Africa
into Europe, India into Asia — dragged its floor into the mantle,
crumpling its sediments into the mountain ranges we know today.
The creatures that lived in its warm waters were buried in rock
and carried, slowly, to the roof of the world.

The oil fields of Saudi Arabia. Iran. Iraq. Kuwait. Every major
Middle Eastern energy reserve traces directly back to the
compressed remains of Tethys Sea organisms. The modern global
economy runs on a graveyard.

Our detective tool: ophiolites — slabs of ancient ocean floor
that should have sunk into the mantle but instead were scraped
onto mountain peaks. Physical evidence of a world that
disappeared 50 million years ago. You can touch it. It's still
there.

The seashells on Everest are not a curiosity. They are a court
exhibit. The rocks remember.
