Finding Maps and GIS Data with the State Historic Preservation Office

The Library of NC Government & Heritage Library held this virtual webinar on GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping and data. The North Carolina Historic Preservation Office (HPO) presented an overview of their GIS Program and how it supports historic preservation efforts across the state.

GIS is a tool for mapping and analyzing data tied to specific locations. In historic preservation, it helps visualize where historic sites are and how they’ve changed over time. In this webinar, the HPO will demonstrate how they create and manage GIS data for historic resources, use spatial analysis to assess impacts like flooding, and design custom maps for field surveys and National Register nominations.
