La Isla De Los Monos (Monkey Island), Iquitos Peru Wildlife Sanctuary in the Amazon Jungle

Here at LIDLM the animals are deeply cared for. They are in paradise, eating bananas, playing with fellow monkeys, humans, and their property dog. Gilberto has been running this sanctuary for 20 years and it has been so special to see his love for his work and the animals he cares for.

Visiting La Isla de Los Monos was the highlight of our honeymoon. We spend 2 days and one night being served homemade local food, day tours included fishing in the Amazon River for piranha, we saw a freshwater dolphin, hiking through the jungle, and a local medicinal plant tour. On the LIDLM site we visited with Woolly monkeys, Spider monkeys, a baby Howler monkey, a Tamarin monkey, sloths, and a happy pup. These animals were never enclosed and eager to play!
